Migration is Beautiful: Butterfly Making Workshop

Join artist-activist, Favianna Rodriguez, for a free hands-on art making workshop for children and their families on Saturday, June 3, 2023 to celebrate the beauty of migration through the monarch butterfly. Favianna will lead with a short talk about the power of art to transform the imagination and honor local ecosystems. Young participants will be able to create their own set of butterfly wings to celebrate the monarch butterfly and the importance of migration. The monarch butterfly is not only an amazing pollinator, it also has a beautiful story of movement that is relevant today.

The monarch butterfly represents the beauty of migration. In her art, Favianna elevates the butterfly as a symbol for the right of all living beings to move freely. “We belong to nature, and nature has no borders. Like the monarch butterfly, human beings cross borders in search of safer habitats. Migration is Beautiful celebrates the resiliency, courage, and determination of migrants who come in search of their dreams,” explains Favianna Rodriguez.

Each participant will get to paint their own wearable butterfly wings. Each child can participate with 1 parent. There will be two sessions, one at 10 am and one at 12 pm

Please sign up for one session, reservations required, space is limited.
