From Glass to Masterpiece: Celebrating 35 Years of Bergin's Artistry
By: Ethan Wescoatt
For three and a half decades, Bergin Screen Printing and Etching has been a beacon of creativity and precision in the realm of glass bottle decoration. As the company celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, it reflects on a journey marked by innovation, resilience, and a passion for producing exquisite designs for wine, beer and spirits bottles.
Bergin bears the imprint of a family legacy, rooted in the entrepreneurial spirit that flows through generations. The company was founded by Mike Bergin whose upbringing was steeped in the wisdom of his father, Jack Bergin. Today Mike's journey continues alongside his daughter and Director of Operations, Savannah Bergin, and his wife, Karen, as they navigate the intricate landscape of business together.
Originating in 1989 as an etch and paint studio, Bergin quickly garnered attention for providing an artisanal packaging solution unseen in the industry. Among its earliest winery patrons was the esteemed Robert Mondavi Winery: a collaboration that showcased Bergin's meticulous craftsmanship on labels and packaging for some of Mondavi's finest wines. Today they decorate for a wide variety of clients, many of whom started as small family-owned wineries and have grown with them over the years.
In 1995, Bergin embarked on a transformative chapter by introducing screen print decoration to their offerings. This strategic expansion marked a pivotal moment in the company's evolution, symbolizing a commitment to growth and adaptability in an ever-changing industry landscape. Bergin’s decision to incorporate screen print decoration not only broadened their service portfolio but also demonstrated a dedication to staying ahead of the curve. Embracing new technologies and print techniques, they ushered in an era of creativity and customization in the packaging field. This bold move not only solidified Bergin's position as a trailblazer in the industry but also underscored their commitment to providing cutting-edge labeling solutions.
With a meticulous approach to their craft, Bergin's team of skilled artisans, screen print operators, designers, managers, and leaders, transforms ordinary glass bottles into works of art. “We see not just a bottle, but a culmination of our collective efforts to enrich the experiences of wine enthusiasts worldwide,” says Bergin. “We stand as steadfast partners, going beyond packaging and offering a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and support. We recognize that our success is measured not just by the quality of our work, but by the success and satisfaction of those we serve. It is this symbiotic relationship, built on trust and collaboration, that drives us forward.”
As they celebrate 35 years of success, Bergin Screen Printing and Etching remains deeply connected to its community roots. Over the years, the company has forged strong relationships with local businesses collaborating on projects that spotlight the artistry and craftsmanship of each bottle and package. "We're proud to be a part of the fabric of our community," says
Bergin. Our partnerships with local businesses not only support our growth but also enrich the cultural landscape of Napa Valley."
